Indira Institute of Technology and Sciences (IITS), Markapur, was established in 2009 with the noble objective of promoting quality technical education among students, particularly in the backward regions of Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh. The institution functions under the aegis of VHR Educational Society, Markapur.

The primary mission of the institute is to nurture highly innovative, motivated, and globally competent leaders in the field of engineering and technology. IITS is committed to academic excellence, holistic development, and fostering a culture of research and innovation.

The institute is spread across a sprawling 15.14-acre campus, nestled in a serene and picturesque hillock region, providing a calm and conducive environment for learning. The campus is strategically located on the National Highway, approximately 3 km from Markapur. The nearest railway station is Markapur, ensuring convenient accessibility.

IITS is housed in well-designed, spacious, and modern buildings that meet the standards of premier engineering institutions. The campus is equipped with CCTV surveillance systems to ensure safety, security, and efficient management of academic resources.

The institute is affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK), as per the notification dated 11-07-2009. It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi (Letter of Approval: F.No. AICTE/E&T/AP-NEW/2009-10/103 dated June 30, 2009), and recognized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh (G.O. Ms. No. 86).

IITS has been accredited with a NAAC ‘B’ Grade, reflecting its commitment to maintaining quality standards in education, infrastructure, and student support services. This accreditation stands as a testament to the institute’s continuous efforts towards academic excellence and institutional development.

Furthermore, the institute is recognized under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, enabling it to avail academic and developmental support from the University Grants Commission.
